Parchment paper is NOT wax paper...
I repeat....it is NOT wax paper...
You may or may-not be
and then because you are
if you by chance have opted for the
this is the step we like to call
'did-you-get-all-the-paper-off-before-you-eat-it' step
or more commonly knows as
'removing the non-parchment-paper paper from the bottom of your baked creation'!
If you do not have parchment paper because you are
AND you feel you may want to avoid the above mentioned family bonding moment
do not
I repeat do not opt for the wax paper...
just go ahead and skip the whole 'paper' step and just spray the bee-jeezus out of your pans...
so just to recap
Wax paper...not good for lining baking pans...
(however it is great for covering bowls of stuff you are heating up in the microwave!)
Let me know what else you use wax paper for...?
Parchment Paper...use this when it calls for it...not wax paper... or spray unhealthy amounts of chemical spray on your baking sheet/pan...but do not...do not use wax paper!
THE END!

ha!
So, we buy the HUGE roll at Cash N Carry and then cut it, and it's like SUPeR cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good to know, I'd probably be tempted to give it a try. :) We pretty much always have wax paper in the house, but the only time we had parchment paper was when someone else who was cooking at my house bought it and left it for me. Wax paper is also good for crafts and we use it between the lid and container when we make homemade ice cream. I think it is something to do with keeping salt out of the ice cream. When I do soemthing like dip pretzels in chocolate, I lay it out on the counter and set the pretzels on it to cool. When I buy large amounts of ground beef and divide it up to freez in smaller portions, I wrap chunks in wax paper and then put them in gallon ziplocks.
I have used waxed paper in leu of parchment paper to line baking pans but the secret is that waxed paper has only one waxed side and u need to make sure the waxed side is the side that will be next to your baked item! Krystle...it's good to know that Cash & Carry has the hugh rolls of parchment paper!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Parchment Paper!!! I've told my hubby a million times (literally every time I use it) that I'm in love with my parchment paper. Wax paper-I use to separate layers of sweets, to cool dipped items to harden (or no-bake cookies ;) I line my counters with it when working with different baking/decorating mediums (though a good friend says Freezer Paper is better for that.) I think I baked with it once or twice and I thought my oven was on fire for the smell. I sure wish I knew where Cash N Carry was! I would be there in a heartbeat! I buy my Parchment at Sam's Club...cheaper than the grocery stores...
